WTF is going on? ...
Well here goes ...
I (db) was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 1997, I had treatment in 2001 which was fucking hideous and I suffered hugely with side effects, I was in the final year of a maths degree when the consultant lied to me about the potential side effects of the treatment and as a consequence he cost me a decent degree. I only got a 3rd class dgree but it is hard to study when you are on chemotherapy, my hair fell out I had the most radical mood swings possible, I threw up alot suffered major physical pain in my joints, shitted blood, etc etc etc. In 2003 my idiot consultant told me the treatment had failed, he lied. The test result he based this on had returned 2 sets of results, one said it was positive for the virus, the other saying it was clear of the virus, no one noticed and I didnt find out the result was wrong until March 2010, I spent 7 years believing myself to be ill. I only found out because I was preparing to do the treatment again and the 2 blood tests that were taken prior to this both came back negative. I gained access to my clinic records and found the 2003 duplicate result. The consultant who was responsible for this major fuck up has subsequently ransacked my notes and removed the 2003 negative result to save his sorry arse from being sued by me, also 3 years of my doctors notes from that period had strangely vanished to reappear with all records that I could use as proof of this fuck up missing. This practice is commonplace in the NHS, when they fuck up they destroy the evidence and tamper with records to prevent litigation. The only record I have is the summary sheet from my GP notes which these arseholes had overlooked which clearly states that the test was negative, however when I confronted the consultant about this he said it was a typo, what a liar, as if medical secretaries would write negative when they mean positive, medical secretaties are paid more than normal secretaries because they are trusted to get things like this right and to suggest that a secretary would say negative when they meant positive is another lie.
There are a number of other issues here, the Liver Function Tests I have had yearly since 2003 have never shown an elevated ALT level, ALT is an enzyme which shows elevated levels in the blood in HCV patients, prior to the treatment in 2001 my ALTs were persistently raised and the other major thing is that the virus will replicate to detectable levels in about a month (I recently discovered) so it isnt actually possible to test negaitve for 2 years then test positive, it simply cannot happen. The consultant has basically ruined my life and then lied his way out of it. It is an outrage that this is allowed to happen and as a consequence of his dishonest ransacking of my notes I dont think I can bring him to account for it. The positive is obviously that I am not actually ill, its hard to feel happy about this under the circumstances.
